In these works, I explore the concept of internal despair through a fusion of historical caricatures and symbolic visual transformations. Each painting combines the iconic caricatures of renowned individuals from the past with a distinctive twist - a fleshy, wormy texture that engulfs the skin area. This transformation serves as a metaphor for the hidden struggles and internal turmoil experienced by these figures.
By morphing the traditionally masculine characteristics of the caricatures, I aim to challenge gender roles and shed light on the evolving societal dynamics. In the Victorian era, these positions of power and influence depicted in the caricatures were predominantly reserved for men. However, in contemporary times, women have shattered these barriers and taken on these roles, defying societal expectations.
Through my artwork, I seek to emphasize the universal nature of despair and the human experience, transcending gender boundaries. By presenting the characters in a state of despair, I aim to evoke empathy and introspection, inviting viewers to reflect on the hidden struggles and vulnerabilities that exist within all of us.
Ultimately, my paintings serve as a visual commentary on the complexity of the human condition, the triumph over societal constraints, and the resilience to overcome internal battles. They stand as a testament to the strength and courage of individuals who challenge norms, break barriers, and find empowerment in the face of adversity.
